How it's Made—Handwoven Rugs

Something that we care a lot about here at DABU is eliminating waste in our production. We want to use what we have and use it well. And that's why we love these sustainable, handwoven rugs. These handcrafted rugs are woven from leftover textile scraps creating one-of-a-kind masterpieces!

So how are they made? Great question! I would love to tell you.

The extra bits and pieces of block-printed fabric from other projects are collected and torn into strips.

These strips are sorted and grouped by color and shade. Check out these fun dabu designs ready to be given a second-life!

Then weavers get to weaving! The artisans carefully lace the strips into the loom. Piece by piece the unique design of the rug starts to show.

Each row is pushed together making sure it's nice and tight. Because the strips come from various block-printed textiles, no two rugs are exactly alike.

The artisans weave and weave until the rug is complete. It is checked, cut off the loom and sent to us.

The final product is a bright and cozy rug, ready to spice up your kitchen, greet your guests or add an extra layer of love to your living room.

In an industry full of pollution and waste, we love making sure each and every inch of our textiles is put to good use!

Bye for now!

Elizabeth
